'We smile and move on', Mamikon Aslanyan says after release
Opposition figure Mamikon Aslanyan, who won the 2021 local government election in Armenia’s third largest city of Vanadzor, on Wednesday shared a photo with his sons following his release form custody last week.
“We smile and move on,” he wrote on Facebook.
Aslanyan, a former Vanadzor mayor, was arrested after defeating Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s party in the local election in December 2021 and was charged with abuse of office and forgery strongly denied by him as politically motivated.
After his release on bail of 10 million drams on 16 July, Aslanyan reiterated that he was a victim of political persecution and did not rule out the possibility of his renewed arrest.
