Russia ready to offer platform for Armenia-Azerbaijan talks, diplomat says
Moscow is ready to provide a platform for negotiations between Yerevan and Baku in a “comfortable” environment, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said on Wednesday.
Speaking at a press briefing, Zakharova reiterated Russia’s commitment to helping the two countries reach lasting peace.
“In line with the agreements reached, Moscow has repeatedly hosted Armenian-Azerbaijani negotiations on the draft peace treaty. We have always remained focused on it and are ready to continue to do so. We guarantee maximally comfortable conditions for the work of both delegations in a bilateral format preferable for them,” she said.
At the same time, the Russian diplomat welcomed Kazakhstan’s efforts to host a meeting between the Armenian and Azerbaijani foreign ministers in Almaty on May 10-11.
“We consider the conclusion of a balanced peace agreement between our two allies as an indispensable prerequisite for building a security architecture and ensuring sustainable economic development in the region,” Zakharova added.
