Governor insists on withdrawal of Azeri troops from occupied Armenian lands
The governor of Armenia’s Gegharkunik Province insists on the pullout of Azerbaijani troops from the Armenian territory they occupied in 2021 and 2022 as part of a possible border delimitation and demarcation process in the area.
“In case of border delimitation in Gegharkunik, Azeri forces must withdraw from the areas they occupied in 2021 and 2022,” Gegharkunik Governor Karen Sargsyan told reporters on Thursday.
The official said there was no decision to launch a border delimitation process in Gegharkunik yet.
Separately, Sargsyan rejected the reports that he banned Gegharkunik residents from meeting with Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, the leader of a protest movement seeking to stop the Armenian government’s territorial concessions to Azerbaijan and to oust Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
