'A cold shower': Armenian analyst reacts to Turkish FM's statement
Political analyst Suren Surenyants has reacted to Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan’s statement on the possible opening of the Turkish-Armenian border following Tuesday’s normalization talks between special envoys from the two countries.
“The negotiation process continues between Azerbaijan and Armenia. If its outcome is positive, Turkey may open the border with Armenia,” Fidan told the Daily Sabah newspaper.
“The pro-government propaganda would have probably trumpeted the Rubinyan-Kilic meeting as a diplomatic victory for several days if their "enthusiasm" had not been curbed promptly by a "cold shower" from Ankara,” Surenyants wrote on Facebook on Thursday.
He pointed to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s latest statement that the “opening of the Zangezur corridor is the final step” of an Armenian-Azerbaijani agreement.
“In fact, Ankara is pushing for a corridor in exchange for the opening of the border with Armenia,” the analyst added.
