Middle East facing new upheaval, Armenian MP says
The Middle East is facing a new upheaval after the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, Armenian opposition lawmaker Tigran Abrahamyan says.
“The situation is extremely dangerous as the attack was carried out inside Iran,” he wrote on Facebook on Friday.
“There were situations in the past when it seemed that the conflict would escalate into large-scale hostilities, but the tensions eased later. In this case, the developments seem to be unfolding according to the worst predicted scenario,” the MP said.
Abrahamyan claimed that Israel and its allies “did everything to ensure a regional explosion”.
“It's hard to predict whether a regional upheaval can be avoided when it seems almost inevitable, but its implications in the region and beyond need to be assessed,” he added.
