U.S. calls withdrawal of Russian guards from Yerevan airport 'step in the right direction'
The Unites States on Thursday called the withdrawal of Russian border guards from Yerevan’s Zvartnots Airport a “welcome step in the right direction”.
Russia on Wednesday completed the withdrawal of its border guards from the Yerevan airport where they had been stationed for more than 32 years.
“We’d spoken about this. Maybe it was almost a year or so ago, maybe more,” U.S. State Department Principal Deputy Spokesperson Vedant Patel told a press briefing.
“It was of course a concerning development then. I don’t have any additional details behind this development; I’m happy to look into it. But certainly would be a welcome step in the right direction,” he added.
