Byurakan Observatory invites visitors to witness 'star rain'
On August 10, 11 and 12, starting from 7 p.m., you can witness a beautiful celestial phenomenon from the Byurakan Observatory area, which will be devoid of city lights. The Perseid meteor shower, also known to many as "shooting stars", "star rain," and "falling stars" will be visible in the night sky, the observatory said on Tuesday.
The Perseids are fast-moving meteors that burn up and disappear upon reaching the Earth's atmosphere, leaving a beautiful trail in the night sky.
At the Byurakan Observatory, visitors can participate in the following activities on these days:
• Free lectures under the open sky,
• Nighttime observations,
• VIP visits to the 1-meter Schmidt telescope,
On this occasion, the doors of the Viktor Hambardzumyan House-Museum will be open to visitors longer, until 24:00.
Nighttime observations:
• Schoolchildren up to 12 years old: 500 AMD
• Other citizens of Armenia: 1,800 AMD
• Foreigners: 3,500 AMD
VIP visit to the 1-meter Schmidt telescope, known for the famous Markarian Survey included in UNESCO's "Memory of the World" international register:
• Schmidt telescope entrance fee: 3,000 AMD
• V. Hambardzumyan House-Museum: 1,000 AMD
