MP welcomes EU envoy's remarks on Artsakh Armenians
Armenian opposition MP Tigran Abrahamyan has hailed the EU special envoy’s latest statements supporting the save return of the displaced Artsakh Armenians to their homes.
In an interview with JAMnews on Monday, the EU’s outgoing Special Representative for the South Caucasus and crisis in Georgia, Toivo Klaar, insisted on the involvement of the Karabakh Armenians in the normalization process between Armenia and Azerbaijan, calling for direct talks between Baku and them about their “safe and dignified return” to their homes.
Moreover, the EU diplomat drew a distinct line between the issue of the Artsakh people’s repatriation and the question of so-called “Western Azerbaijan”. “For me, these are completely distinct questions that cannot be mixed,” Klaar said.
“The Armenian authorities refuse to address in any way what the EU views as a separate issue, Moreover, some members of the Civil Contract party consider the Artsakh issue, including the repatriation of the Artsakh Armenians, closed,” Abrahamyan, the Pativ Unem faction secretary, wrote on Facebook on Tuesday.
“The Armenian government has repeatedly proven that it does not pursue an Armenian agenda, but rather complies with Azerbaijan’s preconditions,” the MP added.
