Trees planted in central Yerevan last year drying up
Elms were uprooted and replaced with spherical plane trees on Sayat Nova Avenue in central Yerevan last year. Panorama.am has recorded that the trees planted a year ago are now drying up everywhere.
At the time of replacing the elms, the head of Greening and Environmental Protection NGO, Armen Begoyan, claimed that plane trees were more durable and could live several hundred years in the urban environment.
However, under the current municipal government, trees did not survive even a year and withered.
Earlier, Panorama.am warned about the deplorable condition of thuya trees planted in the new public park adjacent to St. Gregory the Illuminator Cathedral in central Yerevan.
Factor.am revealed that the Yerevan Municipality spent $900,000 on the construction of the park, with 214,000 paid for one thuja tree, almost ten times more than its market value.
Incidentally, Panorama.am has submitted a request to the Prosecutor General’s Office to find out whether the law enforcement has responded to the report. The agency has yet to respond to it.
