Opposition MP: Armenian authorities attempting to mislead public
Opposition MP Tigran Abrahamyan accused Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s government of attempting to mislead the public amid his urgent push for the conclusion of a peace agreement with Azerbaijan.
"Why is Armenia's leader in a hurry to reach the signing of the so-called "peace treaty" with Azerbaijan and is ready to make painful concessions for it?” Abrahamyan, the secretary of the opposition Pativ Unem faction, wrote on Facebook on Saturday.
He called attention to the removal of a provision concerning the unblocking of regional transport links from the draft peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan to refer to it at a later time.
"At some stage the provision on border adjustment could also be removed from the draft agreement to be made subject to separate negotiations,” the MP said.
“The Armenian authorities seek to sign a "peace" document before the elections in an attempt to mislead the people through false claims of peace. Meanwhile, the problematic and war-threatening provisions in the Armenia-Azerbaijan negotiations will be left to discuss after the elections,” he stated, adding the ruling regime “only strives to maintain its grip on power”.
