Armenian MP: Risk of border attacks remains high amid unresolved conflict with Azerbaijan
Opposition lawmaker Tigran Abrahamyan warns of a risk of attacks on Armenia’s border areas in the future amid an unresolved conflict with Azerbaijan.
In an interview to 24News on Thursday, the MP from the Pativ Unem faction downplayed the border delimitation and demarcation process, stating that it would not help stop possible Azeri attacks on Armenia.
"So long as the conflict with Azerbaijan remains unresolved, any Armenian border area is at risk of attacks and invasion," Abrahamyan said.
He highlighted that the border delimitation came after Azerbaijan’s occupation of Armenian territories in 2021 and 2022, with Azeri forces remaining inside Armenia.
“No one can deter Azerbaijan. Time has shown that Azerbaijan always finds excuses to launch military operations. Moreover, statements of the Armenian authorities also help Azerbaijan legitimize its use of force,” Abrahamyan added.
