Armenia's Amberd Fortress offers free entry on August 18
The Amberd Fortress Historical and Cultural Reserve in Armenia’s Aragatsotn Province is offering free admission to Armenian citizens on August 18 marked as Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Grape Blessing Day) in Armenia.
It is one of the five major feasts of the Armenian Apostolic Church and the oldest of all Marian feasts.
Amberd is a 10th-century fortress located 2,300 meters (7,500 ft) above sea level, on the slopes of Mount Aragats at the confluence of the Arkashen and Amberd rivers. The name translates to "fortress in the clouds" in Armenian.
