Cristiano Ronaldo makes history with 1 bn social media followers
Cristiano Ronaldo has made history again after reaching one billion followers across social media, and the Portuguese intends to create even more, GOAL reports.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winners boasts the world’s biggest following on Instagram, at 638 million, and has seen his ‘UR Cristiano’ YouTube channel pull in over 60m subscribers following its launch on August 21 – with records being shattered there.
When his Facebook, X and other accounts are added to the pot, Ronaldo has become the first man to pass one billion followers. His celebrity status transcends not only football but sport as a whole, with his global appeal clearly unmatched.
Ronaldo has said of rewriting the history books off the field – having made a habit of doing so on it – while making a bold promise for the future: “We’ve made history — 1 BILLION followers! This is more than just a number - it’s a testament to our shared passion, drive, and love for the game and beyond. From the streets of Madeira to the biggest stages in the world, I’ve always played for my family and for you, and now 1 billion of us stand together.
“You’ve been with me every step of the way, through all the highs and the lows. This journey is our journey, and together, we’ve shown that there are no limits to what we can achieve. Thank you for believing in me, for your support, and for being part of my life. The best is yet to come, and we’ll keep pushing, winning, and making history together.”
Ronaldo has stated his intention to prolong a remarkable career for a few more years, with the all-time great ready to play well beyond his 40th birthday in February 2025. He continues to make himself available for Portugal, after earning 214 caps, and remains a talismanic presence for Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr.
