Former Armenian chief justice accuses court of bias
The First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction in Yerevan’s Kentron district on Wednesday continued hearings on the trial of Hrayr Tovmasyan, a former justice minister and chairman of Armenia's Constitutional Court.
Tovmasyan accused the court of bias and refused to continue his concluding remarks at today's hearing.
“I’ve got to complete my speech. I state that you did not allow me to fully realize my right to speech. I have nothing else to say as I believe that this court is biased,” Tovmasyan said after presiding judge Tatevik Grigoryan interrupted him once again.
“No one has ever been forced to testify for 7 hours in a case with expired statute of limitations without a break,” he added.
Tovmasyan, who was removed from his post as Constitutional Court chair following constitutional amendments in 2020 but continued to serve as its judge, has been charged with abuse of power related to alleged real estate fraud rejected by him as politically motivated.
