Armenian cellist announces creation of Artsakh Chamber Orchestra
World-renowned Armenian cellist Narek Hakhnazaryan announced the establishment of an orchestra comprising Armenian musicians forcibly displaced from Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) following Azerbaijan’s 2023 attack.
Hakhnazaryan is the chief conductor and artistic director of the Artsakh Chamber Orchestra which was set up in July this year.
Speaking to Panorama.am on Friday, the acclaimed cellist highlighted that he raised awareness about Artsakh on stage in different countries worldwide, but it could not help prevent Azerbaijan’s military assault on Artsakh and the subsequent exodus of its indigenous Armenian population.
"Since 2020, I have been raising awareness about Artsakh and performing music pieces dedicated to it in an effort to inform people about what is happening in Artsakh because the international media failed to cover the tragic events," the musician said.
“Art is a powerful weapon but it cannot win wars. We’ll be striving to keep Artsakh’s reputation high," he added.
