Russian diplomat rejects Pashinyan's CSTO claims
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s claims that the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) poses threats to Armenia’s security and sovereignty “contradict common sense”, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Friday.
Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova highlighted that Armenia had not formally withdrawn from the Moscow-led security bloc.
“It seems to me that they [Pashinyan’s remarks] run counter to common sense and reality,” Zakharova said at the Fourth Eurasian Women's Forum. “Because if something “threatens” you, especially your national security, what is the point of saying that they [Armenia] are still there [in the CSTO]? If they remain part of it, it means that they see some expediency in it.”
“The people delegate power to statesmen so that they behave responsibly and make statements based on the people’s will and the interests of the country,” she added.
