Levon Aronian says proud to have been part of Armenian team 'that made history'
Armenian GM Levon Aronian won silver medals on individual board and as part of the U.S. team at the 45th Chess Olympiad.
“Very intense Olympiad! Congrats to India for their historical achievement! What an unbelievable tour de force!” he posted on Facebook on Monday.
“As for us, I am happy to get silver on individual board and silver as a team USA! Thanks to Fabi, Wesley, Lenier, Ray and our coaches John and Misha! We didn’t play too well, but we fought very hard and had a great and inspiring come back in the second half.,” Aronian added.
Separately, he highlighted that the International Chess Federation (FIDE) named the Armenian men's team as the Team of the Century while celebrating its 100th birthday.
“I am so proud and honored to have been part of this team that made history for our nation,” the GM wrote.
