Spox explains why Armenian parliament speaker postponed Canada trip
Armenian National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan scrapped his plans to lead a parliamentary delegation to Canada on September 20.
Sources told Yerevan.Today that some circles among the Armenian community of Canada snubbed a meeting with Simonyan’s delegation.
His spokesperson Movses Harutyunyan told Panorama.am on Monday that the trip was postponed indefinitely due to political tensions in Canada.
“At the moment, the political situation in Canada is tense. The country is on the brink of an internal political crisis as one of the parties has left the coalition. In this regard, the speaker of the House of Commons of the Canadian Parliament held a phone call with Mr. Simonyan and asked him to postpone the visit until the settlement of the domestic political situation in the country and Mr. Simonyan gave his consent,” the spokesman explained.
