Wheat production in Armenia unprofitable, economy minister says
Wheat production in Armenia is economically unprofitable, Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan told reporters outside the Armenian government building on Thursday.
According to him, one hectare of irrigated land plot yields 400,000 drams worth of wheat, while the expenses amount to 420,000 drams.
“No country in the world can produce everything. In Armenia, we should develop intensive horticulture, which is a more profitable process, and use the profits to import what is not produced in the country,” the minister remarked.
“I will strongly criticize an economic policy maker who will use Armenia's limited land resources for wheat production instead of intensive horticulture,” he added.
