'The ball is in Azerbaijan's court' on peace deal, Armenian speaker says
National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan reiterated Armenia’s commitment to signing a peace deal with Azerbaijan as soon as possible.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Simonyan pointed out that Yerevan and Baku had already agreed on 13 of the draft peace treaty's 16 articles. He recalled that his Azeri counterpart had proposed to sign the treaty based on the five principles.
“Now there are at least thirteen agreed principles. And we once again urge the international community to speak about this with the Azerbaijani colleagues,” the speaker said. “If Azerbaijan actually doesn’t have territorial claims [to Armenia] and the Azerbaijani leader truly wants peace in the region, the ball is now in Azerbaijan’s court. We are waiting for Baku’s response.”
He underlined that various international partners had offered platforms for Armenia and Azerbaijan to conclude a peace agreement.
