Armenian parliament majority blocks opposition proposal on Artsakh refugees
The pro-government majority in the Armenian parliament on Wednesday blocked an opposition proposal to set up a commission to oversee the living conditions of the Artsakh refugees.
The opposition sought parliamentary oversight of aid funds for the forcibly displaced Artsakh Armenians.
The ruling Civil Contract faction head, Hayk Konjoryan, announced his team’s decision to abstain from a voting on the opposition proposal, arguing that the existing oversight programs were sufficient.
Hayastan faction secretary Artsvik Minasyan denounced the move and accused the ruling faction of “abandoning” their constitutional duties.
“The Civil Contract party once again betrayed Artsakh,” he told reporters before the voting.
The draft decision was not adopted despite 28 opposition MPs' votes for it.
