Opposition MP: Clash in Armenian parliament exposed conflicts among ruling party members
Tuesday’s clash in the Armenian parliament exposed the government’s incompetence and conflicts among members of the ruling Civil Contract party, opposition lawmaker Tigran Abrahamyan said.
He referred to an altercation between Investigative Committee Chairman Argishti Kyaramyan and Civil Contract MP Hovik Aghazaryan, who accused the law enforcement agency of bullying people.
“Stop using pre-trial detention as a means of pressure,” the MP told the committee chief.
Abrahamyan claimed that the bitter clash revealed political corruption, including selective justice used by the ruling party.
“Hovik Aghazaryan admits what the opposition and human rights activists have been warning for many years – the authorities use detention as a means of coercion,” he wrote.
