Economy minister: Armenia doesn't need funds like ANIF
Those responsible for alleged abuses at the Armenian National Interests Fund (ANIF) must be held to account, Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan told reporters after a cabinet meeting on Thursday.
Unveiling the ministry's position on ANIF, Papoyan said: “I believe that we do not need such funds. In my opinion, we should support different sectors with various instruments. This policy is more effective than the policy in which the state gets a certain share, makes investments and has direct involvement.”
At the same time, the minister claimed that the decision to establish ANIF, an agency which was aimed at attracting foreign investment in Armenia, was not wrong. “Every decision is reasonable for a certain period of time,” he explained.
Papoyan said he was unaware of any study regarding abuses at ANIF.
The government decided to dissolve the fund in May this year.
