Armenian parliament committee chair denies discussions about his possible ouster
Andranik Kocharyan, a senior member of Armenia’s ruling Civil Contract party and a lawmaker who chairs the parliament’s defense committee, on Wednesday denied any discussions within the faction about his dismissal.
Earlier on Monday, Civil Contract faction leader Hayk Konjoryan also denied discussions about Kocharyan’s possible removal as committee head after a report on RFE/RL’s Armenian Service alleged that a number of Civil Contract MPs were set to raise the issue at a meeting of the party’s board.
“The report is false. No such discussions have been held within our faction,” Kocharyan told reporters.
The senior MP pointed out that the report emerged after the October 15 parliamentary hearings chaired by him which saw a heated exchange between Investigative Committee Chairman Argishti Kyaramyan and pro-government MP Hovik Aghazaryan.
He denied any wrongdoing that could have triggered such reports.
