Opposition MP: Armenian leadership 'legitimizes' Azeri crimes
The Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) staged a protest outside the UN office in Yerevan on Friday, demanding immediate action to secure the release of Armenian prisoners of war and Artsakh’s leaders illegally held in Azerbaijan.
Similar protests were planned outside the French, US and Russian Embassies in Yerevan later on Friday.
Opposition MP and ARF Armenia leader Ishkhan Saghatelyan said the protests were aimed at making the voice of the Armenian people heard by international organizations and the OSCE Minsk Group co-chair countries, spotlighting the illegal detention of Armenian prisoners in Baku, Azerbaijan’s ongoing aggression against Armenia and ethnic cleaning of Russian in September 2023.
The oppositionist said the claims that the Armenian government had given up on prisoners were well-grounded.
“The Armenian government doesn’t make adequate efforts to secure the release of Armenian prisoners,” he stated, calling out Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s failure to raise the issue at the UN General Assembly session in September.
“Thus, the Armenian leadership sometimes legitimizes Azerbaijan’s crimes,” he added.
