Paris Masters: Khachanov edges out Popyrin to move into quarter-finals
Karen Khachanov moved into the quarter-finals of Paris Masters by defeating Australian Alexei Popyrin 7-6 (5), 6-4 at the Accor Arena, Tennis Majors reported.
The Russian-Armenian continues his fine run of form in recent weeks that has seen his clinch an eighth career title in Almaty before reaching the final in Vienna.
He has now reached the last eight of a tournament he surprisingly won in 2018, beating big-serving home hope Mpetshi Perricard en route before taking out Popyrin.
Khachanov, ranked No 21, will play the winner of the match between Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, the No 8 seed, and French wildcard Arthur Rinderknech next.
Earlier in the tournament, he edged out Australian lucky loser Christopher O’Connell (6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (6)) and French wildcard Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard (6-7 (12), 6-1, 6-4).
