Ex-Ambassador Mikayel Minasyan: Everyone knows that the primary reason for the defeat was the revolution
"Unless we acknowledge the defeat in the 44-day war as the heart of all our challenges - present and future; unless we realize the causes of this defeat punishing those responsible, we can not achieve a safe and secure perspective, we can not safeguard a safe and secure country,” Mikayel Minasyan, Armenia's former Ambassador to the Holy See, wrote on his Facebook page.
"Everyone knows that the primary reason for the defeat was the revolution. Had we accepted the defeat and depicted its causes, our society would have reached a painful still useful conclusion: it bears a share of responsibility for this outcome.
"Instead, a different path was taken. People chose to forget the defeat simply because they could not admit their own mistake. This led to another series of fatal errors namely ignoring the defeat, then disregarding the prisoners and soldiers at the Jermuk positions unarmed and left to their own fate. We lost the security zones connecting Armenia to Artsakh without any resistance, then several strategic roads were conceded in the Syunik region. Subsequently the same with other key territories of Armenia. Ultimately Artsakh was lost as a culmination of betrayal. The authorities conceded Artsakh in a silent accord with the public.
"As this free fall is continuing a new collective mindset has emerged: 'It is good enough if things stay as they are now.”
"But things will not stay as they are now. There is no realistic perspective that the current situation may lead to a positive outcome. The history of Armenia and the Armenian people has no chance of a positive way out unless those responsible for the defeat in the 44-day war are held accountable," Minasyan concluded.
