Armenian Foreign Ministry explains Mirzoyan's statement on customs simplifications with Azerbaijan
At the ministerial meeting of the 3+3 regional consultative platform held in Istanbul on October 18, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan announced: "We have proposed Azerbaijan ways to relaunch our railway infrastructure, simplify border crossing and customs procedures, as well as provide some additional security mechanisms with full respect for the sovereignty and jurisdiction of both countries."
Panorama.am submitted a written request to the Foreign Ministry seeking clarification over Mirzoyan’s statement on simplification of customs procedures.
The ministry was asked to reveal when the proposal was made to Azerbaijan and whether the latter had responded to it.
In its response, the Foreign Ministry said the matter was discussed at private talks between Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan and his Azerbaijani counterpart Shahin Mustafayev following the November 1 meeting of the two countries’ government commissions dealing with the border delimitation process.
The ministry’s response indicates that Azerbaijan has not accepted Armenia’s proposal.
"Updates on the issue will be provided in official statements in due course,” the Foreign Ministry added.
