Opposition resolution calls for immediate release of Armenian prisoners held in Baku
The opposition Hayastan and Pativ Unem factions in the Armenian parliament introduced a resolution calling for the immediate release of all Armenian prisoners, including Artsakh's military and political leadership, illegally detained in Azerbaijan.
The resolution debated at a special session of the National Assembly on Tuesday also urged the Armenian government to actively work with international organizations in an effort to secure the release of Armenian prisoners.
“The Armenian National Assembly calls on the international community to demand that Azerbaijan immediately release Artsakh’s military and political leaders and all other Armenian prisoners illegally held in Baku,” the document said.
The resolution reminded the Azerbaijani leadership of its obligation to immediately release all Armenian captives in compliance with the fundamental provisions of international law and human rights.
The draft resolution was not adopted as the ruling Civil Contract faction MPs blocked it.
