Yerevan to spend some 549.7 million drams on New Year celebrations
The Yerevan Municipality will spend 549.7 million drams on the upcoming New Year celebrations in the Armenian capital, Deputy Yerevan Mayor Suren Grigoryan has revealed.
At a press conference on Wednesday, he recalled that 599.9 million drams were spent on New Year’s festivities in 2022 and 626 million drams in 2023.
This year, a total of 60 million drams will be allocated for decorating Yerevan’s central Republic Square fountains.
Grigoryan dismissed media criticism of costly New Year celebrations, arguing that it would attract a large number of tourists to Armenia and would encourage Armenians to stop celebrating the holiday abroad.
The solemn ceremony of lighting up Armenia's main Christmas tree is scheduled for December 8, the deputy mayor added.
