MP Gegham Nazaryan explains decision to leave opposition faction
Armenian MP Gegham Nazaryan vowed to take a more radical opposition stance after leaving the opposition Hayastan faction.
“I haven’t been removed from the Hayastan faction. Simply, after a joint discussion we decided that it would be more effective for me to continue serving as an independent deputy,” he told reporters on Monday.
Nazaryan said he separately discussed the matter with Hayastan bloc leader Robert Kocharyan.
The lawmaker denied claims that the decision to leave the opposition faction was attributed to his tilt to the ruling Civil Contract faction.
“On the contrary, Gegham Nazaryan will be acting as a more radical opposition MP,” he added.
