Another ruling party member joins the fray for acting Gyumri mayor
MP David Arushanyan of Armenia’s ruling Civil Contract party has decided to run for acting mayor of Gyumri, Armenia’s second largest city which has been left without a mayor for over a month following the resignation of the ruling Balasanyan bloc.
Arushanyan announced his self-nomination for the vacant post in a statement on Monday, highlighting his “urge to serve the community and promote its further development.”
Earlier on Monday, Karen Sarukhanyan, a pro-government MP who heads Civil Contract’s branch in Gyumri, announced his candidacy for acting mayor.
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said in November the acting mayor would be randomly chosen by Gyumri residents in primary elections scheduled for December 8-10.
