International Day of Persons with Disabilities marked on December 3
The International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) is celebrated every year on 3 December.
The annual observance of the International Day of Disabled Persons was proclaimed in 1992, by the United Nations General Assembly resolution 47/3. The observance of the day aims to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities. It also seeks to increase awareness of gains to be derived from the integration of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life.
The theme for this year is "Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future." This theme recognizes the important role that persons with disabilities play in creating a more inclusive and sustainable world for all. It also emphasizes the importance of the participation of persons with disabilities in decision-making processes that affect their lives.

According to official statistics, 173,856 people with disabilities were registered in Armenia as of 1 July 2024, including 83,396 women and 7,642 (4.4%) children. More than 50% of them, 91,097, were elderly people.
