Ex-ombudsman slams dismissal of Yerevan bus drivers
Armenia’s former Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan has denounced the “illegal” dismissal of bus drivers involved in a strike in Yerevan.
A large number of Yerevan bus drivers walked off the job on Tuesday morning, demanding better working conditions and a pay rise.
The Yerevan municipal authorities fired 18 protesting drivers and asked the Prosecutor’s Office to investigate their actions.
“In addition to the intimidation, blackmail and illegal dismissal of people, they have now filed a crime report to a law-enforcement agency,” Tatoyan wrote on Facebook, stressing that the drivers simply exercised their constitutional right to strike.
