Opposition MP slams Pashinyan's 'victim nation' remarks
Opposition lawmaker Levon Kocharyan has blasted Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s “victim nation” claims.
Speaking at parliamentary hearings on Tuesday, Pashinyan said Armenia must work to overcome its “victim nation” image.
“The world perceives us as a victim nation, but our government’s primary mission is to overcome this status,” he stated.
Addressing the parliament on Thursday, Kocharyan accused the premier of misleading the people.
“This rostrum may be able to withstand it all, but our country can hardly endure these lies, falsifications and betrayal for a long time,” the Hayastan faction MP said.
“In addition to falsifying the past in an effort to justify its own total failures, the current government in Armenia offers a concept of the future which is fraught with new disasters.
“For 26 years after the end of the first Artsakh war, the world perceived us as a victorious nation. This was also our self-perception. Meanwhile, Azerbaijan had the image of a victim nation, because the country constantly spoke about the 20 percent of territory it had lost and hundreds of thousands of refugees.
“It was Pashinyan who made Armenia a nation-victim, having lost the war which could and should have been prevented or should have had a different outcome,” Kocharyan claimed.
