Western countries negatively affecting situation in Caucasus, Russian envoy says
NATO is amassing forces on the border with Russia and Belarus with a potential to deploy delivery systems for tactical nuclear weapons, Viktor Vasilyev, Russia’s permanent representative to the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), was quoted as saying by TASS.
"We can see NATO’s military concentration on the Russian and Belarusian borders, with a potential ability to deploy weapons capable of carrying nuclear warheads," he pointed out in an interview with the Allies. CSTO media outlet.
According to Vasilyev, the CSTO has taken note of "an unprecedented rise in tensions in Europe." "The strategic situation has worsened following Finland’s and Sweden’s accession to NATO," he explained.
The Russian envoy emphasized that Western countries were negatively affecting the situation in the Caucasus, fueling instability. "The situation in Central Asia also remains tense as the region is still facing drug, terrorism and extremism threats from Afghanistan," he added.
