Expert: Turkey plans to hike its defense spending next year
Turkey plans to substantially increase its defense and security budget in 2025, says Varuzhan Geghamyan, a geopolitical strategist and regional security expert.
“According to the government budget proposal submitted to the parliament in October, Turkey's defense and security spending in 2025 is expected to amount to record $47 billion, 17.5% more than this year’s budget ($40 billion was envisaged for 2024),” he wrote on Telegram on Monday.
“Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz said the government plans to spend $26.8bn on defense, with $4.8bn set to be allocated to the Defense Industry Support Fund.
“According to Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Simsek, there are over 1,000 projects in the defense industry in Turkey, all utilizing advanced technology,” the expert added.
