Opposition MP: Armenian leaders focused on justifying themselves amid Azerbaijan's military buildup
The intensive mutual visits of Azerbaijani and Turkish military officials are largely part of a plan to reform Azerbaijan’s armed forces, claims Tigran Abrahamyan, an MP from the opposition Pativ Unem faction in the Armenian parliament.
“Azerbaijan, which accuses Armenia of arming itself, will next year complete a five-year modernization plan based on the model of the Turkish army which fully complies with the NATO standards,” he wrote on Facebook on Monday.
The deputy underlined that Azerbaijani troops underwent special training courses as part of the program.
“While the Armenian authorities are focused on justifying their actions and making lavish promises, Azerbaijan is massively rearming its military,” Abrahamyan wrote.
