Hayakve condemns government's indifference towards Syrian Armenians
The Hayakve initiative has expressed concern about the fate of Syrian Armenians following the change of government in Syria.
“We condemn the disgraceful conduct of the Armenian diplomatic missions, as well as the current government's failure to address the issues of Syrian Armenians,” it said in a statement on Monday.
“Given the situation in Syria, Hayakve demands that the Armenian Foreign Ministry immediately launch dialogue with the de facto leadership of Syria to secure guarantees for the safety of the local Armenian population, as well as take urgent action to facilitate the repatriation of the Syrian Armenian community under Article 19 of Armenia’s Constitution.
In order to organize the settlement of our compatriots arriving from Syria, we demand that the authorities:
• Provide permanent residence cards or refugee status to all those resettling in Armenia in accordance with the established procedures.
• Grant tax privileges to private companies and individual entrepreneurs operating in Syria and relocating to Armenia.
• Enroll Armenian students from Syrian universities in relevant universities in Armenia," reads the statement.
