Opposition MP: Pashinyan's comments confirm Artsakh issue remains unresolved
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s latest comments on Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) confirm that the Artsakh issue remains unresolved, opposition lawmaker Tigran Abrahamyan claims.
Pashinyan stated on Monday that all peace plans drafted by the mediators from 1994 onwards focused on “the return of Nagorno-Karabakh to Azerbaijan”. He said that his “big mistake” was not to make it clear to the Armenian people after coming to power in 2018.
Abrahamyan believes the statements confirm that Pashinyan’s surrender of Artsakh “is a lump in his throat”.
“Following the Azerbaijani aggression and occupation of Artsakh in 2023, the entire top leadership of the Civil Contract party was making every effort to convince the public that Artsakh’s concession was the right decision. They were trying to justify themselves, sometimes even attempting to show that the issue no longer exists. Pashinyan’s remarks indicate that the issue remains unresolved and the betrayal is a lump in their throats,” he wrote on Facebook on Tuesday.
"Thus, Pashinyan lied when he announced that the Artsakh issue should be resolved based on the right to self-determination. Moreover, escalating the situation, he went all in by declaring that "Artsakh is Armenia, period!" at the Renaissance Square in Artsakh in August 2019," the Pativ Unem faction MP added.
The MP accused Pashinyan’s government of jeopardizing Armenian interests, which led to "enormous human and territorial losses".
