Armenian opposition MP again slams land handover to Azerbaijan
Opposition MP Hayk Mamijanyan again denounced the Armenian government’s surrender of four villages to Azerbaijan as part of a border delimitation and demarcation process in April this year.
At a year-end press conference on Thursday, he dismissed Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s claims that the ceded border villages had never been part of Armenia's Tavush Province.
The Pativ Unem faction MP also criticized the regulations for joint activities of the Armenian and Azerbaijani border delimitation commissions and the agreements between them, stating that the border delimitation process should have started in the areas seized by Azerbaijani troops.
“They haven’t yet decided which border area will be delimited next. Jermuk is not even next in line. This indicates that the Pashinyan government is unconcerned about the seizure of sovereign Armenian lands by Azerbaijani forces,” he charged.
The lawmaker emphasized that the current Armenian leadership has rejected the mediation efforts of other countries and organizations for the normalization of relations with Azerbaijan, opting instead for Turkey's involvement as the sole mediator.
Separately, Mamijanyan likened Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s move to gift Pashinyan a book on Turkish foreign policy in September this year to a rapist gifting their victim the "Kamasutra”.
Mamijanyan called out Pashinyan for failure to establish "red lines" to protect the country’s interests.
