EU could extend monitoring mission in Armenia through 2027
The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, has proposed a two-year extension of the EU’s civilian monitoring mission in Armenia.
Her office told RFE/RL's Armenian Service that EU member states have already approved the initiative.
Discussions are currently underway within the relevant structures of the European Council to finalize the necessary legal measures for extending the mission. The Council is expected to issue a final decision on the matter in the coming days.
The High Representative's office underscored that the mission in Armenia has clear objectives: monitoring the situation along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border from the Armenian side and supporting the EU's efforts towards the normalization of relations between the two countries.
