Ex-NSS head: Pashinyan will announce Armenia's withdrawal from CSTO soon
Artur Vanetsyan, former director of Armenia's National Security Service (NSS) and leader of the Homeland Party, has criticized the strategic partnership agreement between Armenia and the United States, warning of its potential risks.
In a social media post on Wednesday, Vanetsyan suggested that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is likely to announce Armenia’s withdrawal from the Moscow-led Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) in the near future.
He also pointed to Russia’s statement that Armenia cannot remain a member of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) while simultaneously pursuing EU membership.
“Obviously, Nikol Pashinyan continues to pursue an adventurous foreign policy, which poses a threat of new disasters for the country,” the ex-NSS head said.
He emphasized that state decisions must prioritize Armenia’s interests, calling for a comprehensive assessment of their potential consequences.
“In this case, however, there seems to be a clear rush driven by external interests,” Vanetsyan wrote. “This could lead to severe consequences that will affect all of us.”
