Opposition MP: Armenian authorities continue to sacrifice national interests
Opposition Pativ Unem faction MP Tigran Abrahamyan accused the Armenian leadership of continuing to sacrifice national interests in their dealings with other countries.
In a Facebook post on Thursday, he highlighted the part regarding Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) refugees in the Charter on Strategic Partnership between Armenia and the United States signed on Tuesday.
"Recognizing that Armenia has dealt with a displacement crisis since September 2023, the United States plans to continue to support Armenia as it provides assistance to displaced persons and refugees from Nagorno-Karabakh," the document said.
Abrahamyan pointed out that the agreement failed to explicitly use the term "forced displacement", describing the September 2023 ethnic cleansing against the Artsakh Armenians by Azerbaijan as a "crisis".
"Many initially believed the Armenian authorities were only making concessions in negotiations with Azerbaijan. However, even in their dealings with other countries and through provisions in documents with third parties, the Armenian leadership continues to sacrifice national interests," the MP wrote.
