Minister reports decline in crime rate in Armenia last year
The Patrol Service uncovered around 4,000 crimes in Armenia either independently or in collaboration with other agencies last year, Armenia's Interior Minister Arpine Sargsyan said.
“I would like to highlight the results achieved by the Water Patrol Service. During the fishing ban period, 15 cases were revealed and approximately one ton of fish was seized,” she told a news conference on Thursday.
The minister reported a 1.1 percent decrease in the overall crime rate in Armenia last year.
“The reduction reflects the consistent efforts made by the police and other law-enforcement agencies. Armenia continues to maintain a stable crime pattern, with 81.4 percent of crimes categorized as minor or medium. This suggests that the country remains relatively safe,” she explained.
The minister also revealed that the number of illegal weapons and ammunition seized in 2024 increased by 10.7 percent compared to 2023.
Sargsyan named the development of a comprehensive crime prevention strategy as one of the key priorities of her ministry in 2025.
