Protesters demand release of Armenian prisoners held in Baku
A protest demanding the release of Armenian prisoners illegally held in Azerbaijan took place outside the UN office in Yerevan on Friday.
Organized by a group of Artsakh organizations, the demonstration was held ahead of the start of the Artsakh leaders' sham trial in Baku.
“As Armenian prisoners face trial in Baku today, it's crucial to speak out against this travesty of justice, draw global attention to Azerbaijan’s criminal practices and work to prevent future crimes,” former Artsakh education minister Narine Aghbalyan told reporters at the protest.
She claimed political prisoner Ruben Vardanyan's latest statement revealed the disgraceful state of justice in Baku, calling it a wake-up call for Armenians and a reminder for the international community to defend justice.
"Ruben Vardanyan's statement indicates that we’re going to witness another show in Azerbaijan. This is a call to all of us not to fall for another ploy by Azerbaijan," Aghbalyan added.
