Opposition MP: 'Trials' of Armenian prisoners in Baku deal a direct blow to Pashinyan
Despite the Armenian leadership's “clear willingness to meet Baku’s demands”, the trial of Armenian prisoners that began in Azerbaijan on Friday “has dealt a direct blow” to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, according to opposition Pativ Unem faction MP Tigran Abrahamyan.
“A few months ago, Azerbaijani media reports suggested that the order to attack Azerbaijani civilians was not issued by former Artsakh President Araik Harutyunyan, but by Nikol Pashinyan himself, something Harutyunyan allegedly admitted in his ‘testimony’,” he wrote on Facebook on Saturday.
“The main issue isn’t that Baku can extract any testimony – whether through pressure, threats, or falsification of interrogation records. Rather, the real concern is that after receiving multiple concessions from the Pashinyan government, Azerbaijan is now preparing a package of war crime charges against Pashinyan himself,” the MP stated.
He warned of attempts to drag Armenia into geopolitical rivalries through Pashinyan.
“Under the favorable conditions created by the current government, Azerbaijan will seek to extract more from Armenia, stripping us of independence and viability,” Abrahamyan emphasized.
