January 20 a 'historic day' for the US, Armenian expert says
January 20 is a “historic day” for the United States as President-elect Donald Trump will officially assume office, marking his political “comeback", political analyst Suren Sargsyan says.
In a social media post, Sargsyan recalled that the first presidential inauguration in the U.S. was held in New York in 1789. During the ceremony, George Washington started the custom of adding the phrase “So help me God” at the end of the oath.
Trump's return to the presidency is a rare occurrence in U.S. history. He is only the second president to reclaim the office after losing the previous election. The first was Democrat Grover Cleveland, who served as both the 22nd and 24th president of the U.S.
Trump's inaugural address will take place indoors due to dangerously cold weather forecast in Washington.
"It's worth noting that President William Harrison delivered an inaugural address in cold weather and later succumbed to pneumonia, dying just a month into his presidency in 1841. Interestingly, his inauguration took place in March, when temperatures were 13 degrees warmer than today," Sargsyan wrote.
"In his inaugural address, Trump is expected to outline his domestic and foreign policy priorities, with a focus on domestic issues for his second term," the expert added.
