Ex-minister calls for abolishing asset declaration in Armenia
Economist Mesrop Arakelyan, a former minister of labor and social affairs, has called for the cancellation of Armenia’s “disgraceful” asset declaration system.
In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Arakelyan criticized the system as “another mockery of the people by the authorities.” He argued that the requirement for widespread asset declaration would create serious problems for the people, noting that approximately 2.6 million individuals are expected to file declarations this year.
“I will elaborate on the problems with this disgraceful system soon,” Arakelyan wrote. “However, there is only one viable solution: the widespread asset declaration must be abolished in the Republic of Armenia.”
Arakelyan announced a signature collection aimed at repealing the relevant provisions of the Tax Code.
