MP: Turkey and Azerbaijan assessing risks of new aggression against Armenia
Tigran Abrahamyan, an MP from the opposition Pativ Unem faction in the Armenian parliament, claims that Donald Trump's return to the White House has created both expectations and uncertainty.
In a social media post on Wednesday, Abrahamyan noted that although Trump outlined his approaches and plans on domestic and foreign policy during his campaign and prior to assuming office, “it is clear that not everything will unfold as expected or according to plan.”
“The central issue is the gradual shift in global dynamics away from the post-World War II rules, with the principle of use of force becoming increasingly dominant,” he wrote.
“Turkey and Azerbaijan are currently engaged in political calculations, analyzing the potential opposition or consequences of any possible aggression against Armenia, particularly in relation to opening a so-called corridor to Nakhichevan.
“The key question remains: will the external environment be favorable, or will there be obstacles? Much will become clearer in the near future, as it will soon be more apparent what concessions the major geopolitical actors will make in their negotiations, whether they will come at the expense of certain regions or countries, and, most importantly, whether the global order will shift to new rules, or the world will continue to follow the "law of the jungle" approach,” Abrahamyan concluded.
